Cinco Paul’s script is filled with lovingly pointed jabs at the musical theatre genre — starting with its title and then, almost immediately, the exclamation mark that completes it. Paul’s script maintains a delicate balance of cynicism and affection. Musical theatre fans understand that the entire construct is a bit silly and sometimes downright ludicrous. But so is life.
