Maybe Happy Ending has had an unusual journey to Broadway. Premiering in South Korea in 2016, it made its American debut at Atlanta’s Alliance Theatre in 2020 before opening on Broadway in November 2024. Its New York run was dogged by difficulties: previews were delayed by a month due to supply chain issues with the set, and capitalisation woes followed after a TikTok “influencer” wrongly speculated that the production would be cancelled — prompting several investors to pull out. Though it opened to strong reviews and positive word of mouth, it initially struggled at the box office.
