This was always going to be a challenging season for Broadway compared to 2024/25, which was exceptional across the board, with both strong new plays and musicals, as well as excellent revivals. Producers buoyed by a good season seemed to have tried too hard for lightning to strike twice. Many of this year’s productions are predictable and are lacking the risk element which defined 2024/25.
